Spare Time in the Summer Time

Spare Time in the Summer Time
By: Karla Kristine Nelson

Who wouldn’t love Minnesota summers? We get 90-degree days, lake-covered land, and a front seat to endless event experiences! But, when the kids are out of school and the budget is on the watch, sometimes, it can feel overwhelming to find things to fill their time without emptying our bank account.

Here are three FREE things for the kids to do in their FREE time!

  1. Bond over books! Numerous libraries in the area have Thursday Kids’ day, which differs by library, but caters to specific age groups and interests, while giving mom plenty of different options to choose from! Find a time and a topic that work best for your family at the Hennepin County Library site at www.hclib.org.
  2. Perform in the park! Free concerts, movies, and cultural performances are held throughout the summer at the Maetzold Ampitheater in Centennial Lakes Park, which is located in Edina. Go to www.ci.edina.mn.us.com for the schedule!
  3. Play over projects! Participating Lowe’s hold Build & Grow Clinics on Saturday mornings, which keep the kids busy as they build with their hands to construct their own creation. Go to www.lowesbuildandgrow.com for more information!
